Cheiri Kubota

Professor; Lead Daughter Plant Physiology

Cheiri Kubota

Dr. Kubota is a Professor of Controlled Environment Agriculture at the Ohio State University. Dr. Kubota worked for 6 years in Chiba University (Japan),16 years at the University of Arizona and 2.5 years at OSU (Columbus) as a new faculty member focusing on controlled environment crop production. She interacts regularly with greenhouses, indoor farms and nursery stakeholders to identify and address issues in crop production under protected cultivation, such as optimizing aerial environmental conditions and nutrient management. Her research encompasses various different systems including in-vitro micropropagation, transplant production, and crop production systems. Dr. Kubota takes multidisciplinary approaches covering plant physiology, horticulture, and engineering, and trains growers through online courses (e.g. greenhouse plant physiology & technology), private training (e.g., one-day strawberry training), and technical consultations. She also regularly communicates with stakeholders through websites, online forums (Indoor Ag Science Café) and social media (https://www.facebook.com/CEPPTLAB/) in addition to formal presentations at growers conferences. Her controlled environment strawberry information website (https://u.osu.edu/indoorberry/) serves various stakeholders including strawberry producers, nursery propagators and greenhouse growers. Many of her former graduate students became leaders in industries relevant to controlled environment agriculture.
